Welcome to Circles of Courageous Commons

Encouraging acts of the heart, supporting our common good

Circles of Courageous Commons strives to become what U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy names as a “point of social connection.” We believe that through coming together for conversations and programs that encourage and facilitate meaningful interaction we will both heal ourselves and, in the words of the Surgeon General, come to believe in our “own agency to be healers* in our communities for our planet.”

As a virtual and in-person community, we create spaces where people can come together for deep conversations and soulful experiences. Circles of Courageous Commons strives to become what U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy names as a “point of social connection.” We believe that through coming together for conversations and programs that encourage and facilitate meaningful interaction we will both heal ourselves and, in the words of the Surgeon General, come to believe in our own agency to be healers* in our communities for our planet.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead

We invite you to think of Circles of Courageous Commons as a community garden. We provide the infrastructure—water, land, and shelter—while various circles are responsible for their own garden plots, choosing what to grow. Some plots will be active each season, while others may be seasonal.

Author Heather Menzies describes “the commons” as shared spaces where people come together to care for and sustain resources collectively for our mutual welfare. By creating soulful spaces, much like the commons, we hope to seed communities of mutual respect and understanding. We trust that all those engaged in this common work will renew their inner strength and discover newfound courage to be engaged in work for the common welfare of our communities and planet.

As a non-profit 501-C3, we will operate as a community, using donations and gifts to support programs under the Circles of Courageous Commons umbrella.

“It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.”

-Audre Lorde
